Airfordable is changing the travel game by letting consumers book flights ahead of time and pay in installments. The company was founded in 2014 and since then has been making a difference in the travel industry. Airfordable’s flight layaway service is honestly priceless compared to other booking agencies available. Let’s talk about Airfordable and the pros and cons of the service.
A couple of friends, colleagues, and acquaintances have asked me if Airfordable is actually legit. I’m here to tell you that it actually is a reputable company. Airfordable is a service that adds significant value to the consumer. A good majority of people have to save for vacations/getaways and with Airfordable they give you the option to do flight layaway.
A little background about Airfordable:
- The founders of the company are Ama Marfo (CEO), Craig Henry (COO), & Emmanuel Buah (CTO)
- The company was founded in 2014.
- According to the Airfordable website their community of users have collectively booked flights for more than 7,000,000 miles.
- There are over 27,000 people using the platform to book domestic and international flights
- In the future, Airfordable plans to expand to vacation packages and hotels.
The Birth of Airfordable
Originally, the idea for Airfordable came about when CEO Ama Marfo would sit in her dorm during the holidays while she missed out on valuable time with her family. You know what they say when an issue comes about in your life, it’s human nature to figure out a solution to your issue. The idea of Airfordable was born and Ama Marfo brought two more people (Craig Henry & Emmanuel Buah) to bring the vision of Airfordable to life.
“I wanted to see my family in Ghana during school breaks, but couldn’t afford the $2,000 ticket,” she said. “I stayed in the dorm alone or with other international students who couldn’t go home. Because of this personal frustration, I set out to determine how to make travel more accessible.”Ama Marfo
Although Airfordable is a platform where you can book tickets with a deposit, and pay over time, there is one downside to the service.
“For this convenience the startup charges a pretty lofty fee – anywhere from 10-20%, depending on demand, the date of travel, and ticket price. Assuming a 3-month repayment period, a 20 percent fee is essentially an insane 80% APR.”— Tech Crunch
The fee is actually worth the service to me. At the risk of actually having the price of a flight increase, the fee is a safety blanket for me to lock in a fare and secure my flight. Also, the fee is OK with me because again, I’m not paying for the entire price for a ticket upfront. That alone justifies the fee for me.
Airfordable Platform (User Experience)
However, when it comes to the user interface on Airfordable, it needs a facelift. Sometimes I do wonder how much more traffic the site would get, and how much more inclined customers would be to use the service if the site received a makeover. A beautiful website is a thing for me. It shows a certain level of professionalism and shows a genuine concern for the brand. It seems like the site has the basics to book the flights, and that is it. Basic functionality.
