If you are a frequent reader here at Melanin Voyage, you know that I love unique accommodations, and I’m back with another one! This one is for my wine drinkers out there. We can sleep in a barrel people!
What is Quinta da Pachea?
Quinta da Pacheca, one of the best-known estates in the Douro region, was also one of the first properties to bottle wine under its own label. It is first mentioned in a document dated April 1738, where is it referred to as “Pacheca’s”, because it was the property of D. Mariana Pacheco Pereira. The estate offers wine tours, dining, and accommodations for visitors upon request.
What On Earth? How Can I Sleep In A Wine Barrel?
As odd as this sounds, you can sleep in a huge wine barrel. The rooms are made in the fashion of a wine barrel and you have full accessibility in the room. Amenities in the room include a full-sized bed, running water, lights, and more.
How Much Is It Per Night?
Interestingly enough, I could not find a price on these wine barrels. It could be because of COVID-19 but I would suggest that you keep checking the site for availability. It could also have something to do with the fact that this is experience is so unique that they are always booked solid.
What Else Can I Do Besides Sleep in a Wine Barrel?
The entire property is an experience. They have a world-class restaurant, wine tours, and two other places that you can actually stay in besides the barrels. Apparently they make olive oil as well that you can taste that people rave about.
OK, So Where Is This Place Located?
The vineyard and Wine Barrel hotel accommodations are located in Portugal. You can get there by getting a flight into OPO (Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport) and getting a personal escort to the resort/vineyard. The address is, Rua do Relógio do Sol, 261 – Cambres, Lamego Viseu, 5100-424 Portugal.
Do you plan on taking a trip to stay in a wine barrel? It’s certainly on my wishlist!
