Many people have made the decision to travel abroad, but if you’re part of the African-American community, you may have heard that traveling in groups isn’t always safe or encouraged. There are many reasons why this isn’t true, though, and it’s important to understand why you should consider traveling with a group of people who look like you and share your background—especially if your goal is to visit countries where African-Americans aren’t treated well at all. Here are five important reasons to travel with a group when you have the opportunity to do so.
It’s much easier to control your spending when you have other people in your group to talk you down from any crazy decisions. If there’s a sightseeing tour or activity that looks like fun, maybe someone will say, I can think of 50 better things we could do with $30 than standing outside in 90-degree heat waiting for 10 minutes of air-conditioned darkness.
There is no way to get around it, travel is dangerous. The statistics show that there are more risks associated with traveling alone than in a group. Statistics show that you are less likely to get hurt or robbed when you travel in a group because there is safety in numbers. Don’t be afraid to ask for help, no one wants an incident on their trip, so knowing your fellow travelers can be beneficial in times of trouble. Safety comes with preparation and being aware of your surroundings.
It can be great to travel on your own, but nothing beats being able to share experiences with others. Feeling comfortable and safe when traveling alone is important; however, in a group you’ll have an added layer of security that often isn’t available to individual travelers. 4) Dedicated Trip Leader
Being a part of a group trip is fantastic for many reasons, but having someone to ensure you get where you need to go and that your experience is memorable and enjoyable is one of them. With a dedicated trip leader, you won’t have to worry about getting from place to place—all you have to do is follow along with all of your new friends. If you’re looking for adventure, there’s nothing better than traveling with others in a group setting.
5) Peace of Mind
Travelling with a group can give you peace of mind—and not just because someone else is doing all the driving. You’ll also know that if you do run into any issues while travelling, there are other people you can lean on for support.
